Evaluation of media product

 How it develops conventions of real media products and how it challenges
 How my magazine develops upon real media products is it uses many of the codes and conventions that are typically found in other media products examples of this that are used are it has a title on it that uses very big and bold font I chose to use this because the magazine which I was using to help me with the design which was called vibe had uses this on its magazine. Another design choice which I also implemented into my own which was also from vibe magazine was that it used a very large picture on the front cover of who would be the main focus for most of the magazine and the text that is on the front cover that is linked to them will often be in the biggest font so that it will stand out to whoever the reader of the magazine is. Also on the front cover I used many plugs to show some of the other articles that were in the magazine that wasn’t one of the main ones to the reader. How my media product challenges other media products is with the double page spread it has quite a different design and also layout to the ones that were typically seen in some of the other double page spreads in other magazines.

The magazine is it may show them to use a lot of non standard english by some of the language that is used in my magazine such as a lot of slang. It also shows the kind of clothes that they would wear by what some of the people in my magazine were wearing.

 Audience for my media product

 The audience for my media product would be anyone who would be interested in rap music. This would be because this is what all of the magazine is based around and does not talk in-depth about any other genre of music as this would not be in keeping with the theme of the magazine. Also the design of the magazine in general also gives a good idea of who the magazine would be primarily aimed at examples of this would be that the font is very big and bold this would suggest that it is aimed at a younger audience probably around 16-25 as the font would stand out to them and make them want to buy the magazine. Another design feature which would also suggest that it is aimed at a younger audience is that there is not lots of text used in one article but are quite a lot of images as this . 

 How I attracted target audience to my media product

One of the ways which I attracted my target audience to my media product is I took many of the design aspects for it from vibe magazine examples of this would be the font that I used for the heading of my magazine was bold so that it would stand out to whoever the potential audience for the magazine is the font was also In a similar style to the font that you would typically find on the front cover of vibe magazine. Another way in which I attracted my target audience to the magazine is that the layout of the front cover was very similar as there was one main title I found on vibe which would stand out to the reader and then there would be other articles which would not have as much importance placed on them. 

 What I have learnt about using technology to create a magazine

What I have learnt about using different technologies from making a media product is I have got a much greater understanding of how adobe Photoshop works and how to effectively edit any of my work that I have done on it. Some of the techniques that I have learnt to use to edit on adobe Photoshop is to know which design choices are appropriate for the style of magazine that I am designing the style of the magazine being like many of the rap magazine that are around at the moment. Another technology which I have gained a much better understanding for from doing this is blogger as before I had done this work I would not have had a very good understanding of what a blog is and what it needed to be used for.

What I have learnt from my preliminary task

Looking back at the preliminary task and the work that I have produced since then it is clear that I have gained a much better understanding of the tools on Adobe Photoshop and how to utilise them properly in order to create a effective media product that appeals to the target audience that it was aimed at. Also looking back at my preliminary task and the work that I have produced now it is also clear that I know a lot more about magazine and there design choices that they choose as I have had to look at them in order for me to implement them into my own media product so that it would be effective and get the audience that it was aiming for. These design choices include things such as the layout as on my preliminary  task the layout was not very good for a magazine however on my finished product it was suitable for a magazine as it had a large heading with a image that dominated the front covert of the magazine which is how it was in many of the magazine that I looked into and researched in order for me to create my final media product. Also another design choice which I became much more aware of when designing my final magazine was the font that was used as the font which is used in the magazine was also used for a reason in order for it to appeal to a certain target audience.

 What media institute would distribute my product?

•The kind of media institute that would distribute my product is one that would distribute magazines that were based off music as that is what my magazine is about.

The first article that i am looking at is from the magazine kerrang upon first glance the article will stand out because  of some of the over the top design which is on it examples of this would be the font that is used on it as it is very large and will jump out at the reader it may also stand out because of the colour choices that are used throughout these are colours like red,black and white these are good colour choices for this magazine as they are very loud which fits the heavy metal style of kerrang magazine perfectly. The images which are used in it are also very large and dominant which reflects the magazine well because of the style of it. The layout is quite hectic because of the shear amount of things that are on the page however despite this everything is still very easy to find which is important as someone will not want to have to try to find what they want to read. From looking at this article the magazine seems to be more informal because of the fact that there is not that much text in comparison to some other magazines.



The next article that i am looking at was taken from the rap magazine vibe the magazine has a large picture to the left of lupe fiasco which was most likely done to grab the attention of anyone who may be a fan of him and will be instantly recognizable to them the colour scheme that is used throughout the double page spread is black and gold the use of the gold may be to symbolize something such as wealth but it also seems to be used to highlight key points throughout the article as well that will be of interest to the reader of the article. Also a quote from the article is in big font this may have been done to make the reader want to read in more to the article to find out what it is about in more detail the gold is also used to separate the questions from the answers in the interview as well. The image seems to fin in well with the feel of the rest of the article with it being more of a serious interview rather then it being a jokey type of interview.

The contents page that i am looking at here is from vibe magazine it has many different design choices for example the colours that are used in it are black and white this gives the magazine a much more classy look to it and will make it look appealing to whoever the reader is of the magazine. Also they have made the picture of the celebrity large so that it will grab the attention of the reader of the magazine and will make them want to keep reading if they see who the magazine is centred around. They have also mixed up the letters in contents this was also most likely done to give it a much more appealing look. The features of the magazine has about 3 different articles on it which will have been done as it is showing what is the main bulk of the magazine. The font that they use in this section also gives a much more classier look to it which will also make it jump out more at the reader and make it look more attractive. Also the image which is shown isn't clear about what is portraying to the reader which will also add a level of mystery to it as well.

The next contents page that i am analysing is q magazine this also has a lot of different design choices for example they seem to put a lot more emphasis on the different features that the magazine has to offer more so then they did do in vibe this is shown by the fact that they use a much bigger and bolder font in there contents page whereas vibe used smaller and more italic font on the contents page of there magazine also each of them are underlined in red which was most likely done as a way to distinguish between each of the different features but may also have been done to make each thing stand out more to the reader. They do though much like vibe magazine use a big picture however unlike vibe it is used to show of what the main article is and what it will be about as directly underneath the image there is a page number and no description as the picture gives enough information of the article as it is. The contents page uses a lot of red and white on it this will have been done to be in keeping with the theme of the magazine as red and white is used on the front cover and throughout most of the magazine as well.

Liam marshall is one of the new and upcoming rap artists and one who we are expecting great things from his first album which dropped this year was the best selling rap album for the year and with another album also expected for the coming year as well things just keep getting better and better for the young rapper from Doncaster. In a recent interview he was asked how he felt about all of the support that he was getting from his fans he said "that he was thankful for all of the people who supported him and that he would never take what he had for granted" He also said that "He was going to keep producing music to the best of his ability". Which is lucky for us as what he has put out so far has been nothing short of amazing and we are more then happy to keep getting as good a music as what he is currently putting out there.

The new album which is scheduled to be released in the summer of this year is set to be much darker then his previous one and has said many times that he wants this to be the theme for his upcoming album. If this is true then it would be quite a contrast from the previous album that he put out with it having a lot of humour used throughout the album could Liam be the next Eminem with the styles of each of them being very similar? Who know but we are more then happy to have someone who is making music up to that standard which is incredibly rare now with many rappers talking about subjects just to satisfy the mainstream audience in order to get more record sales. However we truly do believe that he loves music and cares more about producing great music for his fans rather then worrying about his bank balance which is just one out of a long list of traits that make him so unique and such an amazing artist. And while we eagerly await his next masterpiece we can just keep listening to his amazing work which is out at this moment. And while some people may say that he is over hyped we here at beat magazine wholeheartedly disagree and thing that he deserves all of the recognition that he is getting and believe that people should not underestimate the talent that he has. But whether you believe that he is one of the greatest rappers at this time or a over rated mediocre rapper there is no denying his passion for music.






      

Proposal for magazine

What i am proposing for my magazine is that i am going to be doing a magazine that is based around rap and will cover topics that will be of relevance which will appeal to a younger audience. The magazine will  have a even balance of both pictures and writing and the style of the writing will be on the more formal side as this will allow for more in depth articles also because there will be a good balance between pictures and also writing it will mean that it will appeal to a much wider range of people which is important for a magazine. The magazine that i will be doing will have one person who will be the main focus of the magazine and there will also be other articles as well to to anyone who may not be as interested in that particular article and may want to read something aside from that.

The design of the magazine will take inspiration from other magazine that have a similar purpose an example of such a magazine would be vibe. Some of the key design choices that this magazine has it there is always a large picture of a someone who may be one of the main features to that particular magazine and it tends to be on the front page,contents page and also on the double page spread. There is also a lot of use of one colour in different issues of the magazine this is most likely done to keep with the theme of a a particular issue. There tends to be a lot of large font used throughout as well to make something  stand out this may be the name of a big celebrity who is the highlight of one of the issues it will also be put in a bold font to make it jump out at the reader as well.

The article that i will be writing will talk about a new and upcoming artist and will give information about them they will also be on the double page spread as well however they will not be in the contents page as this would mean that there would mean that there would be not much variation to the magazine which will also may make it less appealing to the reader of the magazine as well.
