Initial Ideas

          Initial Ideas

The initial ideas for my magazine is that it is going to be based around the rap genre of music and in It I will include info on a new artist and a interview with them on the front cover of the magazine I will include many of the codes and conventions of what is on a magazine front cover this will include things such as a main cover photo which I will take myself and will make relevant to the magazine and in keeping with the theme of it and will make it relevant to the rap music that is currently being listened to today. Also on my front cover it will include other stories this is often quite common in many other articles as it will make the reader still want to buy it even if they are not interested in the main part of the article. The target audience for my magazine will be people who are interested in rap music and will be aimed hopefully at a older audience as I am going to write it in quite a lot of detail and try to include less images and more words in the magazine.

This differs quite a bit to the q magazine cover which for that particular front cover had a rap artist to be the main focus of the article and this magazine focuses on rap music than any other genre as this is what the magazine is about. The first thing that you will notice is the use of colour throughout the contents page is that it uses a lot of white and yellow the yellow however is mainly used to show particular points of interest to the reader also black is used quite a lot on it as well the mix of these two colours together could be used to represent something. Also many of the main articles have a picture to accompany the writing as it will give the reader some extra information on the contents page as well and will make it the main focus to whoever may be looking at it. Also the target audience for this would be anyone who is interested in this genre of music and seems to be more aimed at a teenage audience by the way that it is laid out in a certain way to be more appealing to the kind of people who will be reading this.

The main picture on the front of the magazine is really large as it wants this to be the main focus of the cover as this is what people most people will be interested in. Also the colours that are used on the main cover is it uses mainly red, gold and white these were most likely used as red and white colours are a staple of this particular magazine also gold links in with the main photo of the article as well as it is a symbol of wealth and portrays him as being a powerful person. Also the main photo that is used on the front cover is used as a close up shot this is most likely done to really emphasise the importance of him in the magazine and how he is the main focus of the magazine. Also around all of the main parts of the front cover there are also other things about the other content in the magazine in case you may not want to read the other article also it will attract a larger audience to the magazine if there are a wider range of genres in it. Much of the important info is also highlighted in the red colour to draw attention to anything that could be of any relevance to the reader. Also at the very top of the page there is a strap line which also talks about extra information on the article,   

This double page set out in a way so that it grabs the reader’s attention it does this by having a large picture of the artist who they are going to read about this means anyone who is interested in them will be drawn to this article. Also it uses eye catching sentences in the text which will also make people want to read it they do this by picking the good bits out of the text and put them in eye catching font so that the reader will also be drawn to this. I think that the target audience for this article would be anyone who is interested in that genre of music and is aimed at a older generation due to its lack of images compared to many of the other magazines such as kerrang. I think that the colours are used such as gold are used to symbolise something such as wealth this would be relevant to the person who is in the article is quite wealthy. This also differs to kerrang magazine in the fact that it is higher quality then something like kerrang by the way in which it is laid out. Also the colours are used to good affect in the article as well because they use them to show a question and a answer for something.

Bauer- Bauer is a large media company they operate in 15 different countries but they also work in the TV industry and also the radio as well. Bauer media is also a different division to all of the others and forms a much larger media group. They are also recognised by others to be industry innovators. The group also employs around 6,000 people to work for them. The first magazine it launched was the angling times in 1953 these are both still seen as iconic brands within their business. They also have the bestselling international multi-platform magazine fhm. As a business to say the amount of success it has had over the years it is still a relatively new business. At this moment in time there are over 80 unique brands with Bauer which cover a range of categories that will suit many different interests for the reader.

 

IPC media- IPC media have more than 60 brands and creates content for magazine, tablets, online and events. They are also the United Kingdom’s leading consumer magazine publisher there website also has around 25 million visitors in a month. They also have three different publishing divisions which are IPC connect, IPC inspire and also IPC south bank each of these are for a different audience and also a different purpose as well connect is a women’s weekly magazine such as chat and women, inspire is a men’s portfolio of magazines which has a number of leisure brands such as rugby world and country life. Also two thirds of UK women read a magazine by IPC media and 42 percent of uk men. The company was also formed in 1968 however the company’s history goes as far back as 1799. Also a total number of 26 million adults will read a ipc media magazine. IPC is also a time warner company.

Future plc - Future plc is an international media group that is also listed on the London stock exchange. The business that was founded by one magazine in 1985 the business now has operations in 3 countries which are the UK, US and Australia. They create over 200 specialist’s websites, publications, apps and events. They also lead the market in the areas where they put the most focus on which are Technology, Entertainment and Video Games, sport and auto music and creative. They also have the UKs number one consumer technology website TechRadar. And they also attract 38 million visitors to their website every month. They also sell 2.2 million magazines every month and export to 89 different countries which make them the UKs number one exporter and licensor of magazine content. They also have the number one selling magazine on tablets that being T3. They have also won various awards for their work which include AOP consumer digital publisher of the year for 2012 and the PPA digital consumer publisher of the year also for 2012.

Media Informal Writing

The GCSE results are HERE!!!!! However there could be a problem teachers are complaining at the fact that many students have been cheated out of there all important C grade but what could this mean for you? Well we are going to find out.

Many students were shocked to find out that they may have been cheated out of there all important C grade after the ground boundaries were moved just 2 weeks before they were released to the very excited students. This has caused much uproar among the students also many schools across the country have ordered a remarking of the papers leading to a big debate on the subject matter do you think that the students should be punished because of something like this. I myself think this is wrong and believe that something should be done.

Although students in Wales may be having there grades remarked leading to many people saying that the students in England are being treated much more unfairly in comparison to there welsh counterparts. Meaning there has been a lot of arguments on both sides of the fence. Leighton Andrews said that welsh pupils had been a victim of injustice but where does this leave the students in England well we are yet to find that out but we hope to find out more info soon

The act that they have cheated many students out of there all important C is not right after the many hors they probably put into revision and then for the results to change 2 weeks before they were released is a big injustice and something needs to be done and so far all they have offered are resits which is not good enough.  

  

Magazine Front Cover and Contents Page Analysis

Preliminary Task-Evaluation

The preliminary task that we did was we had to make our own front cover and contests page for the Armthorpe Academy I approached this task by choosing one of the templates that I had done prior to the task and then trying to follow the template as closely as possible. So the first thing I did was I put all of the basic pieces onto the contents page and then I started adding all of the pictures and text to it. The colours that I used in it were ones that I felt were reprehensive of the Armthorpe School and would usually be associated with it this would be colours such as blue.

Before we did our task we did a substantial amount of research this included things like we looked at the key concepts of a magazine cover and when we did this we were able to apply the knowledge of that into our preliminary task these concepts included things like there was often a headline so I tried to include this into my front cover also another recurring theme in magazine covers was there was often one dominant picture on the front cover so I also included this into my work as well. We also looked at contents pages as we had to create one of these for our preliminary task and we looked at how these usually would look and when we found these we also used some of the things which seemed to show up regularly on them and we used them in our own.

Some of the skills that I have learnt while using Photoshop to create our magazine cover and contents page is I have been able to understand how layers work within Photoshop I have also learnt how to be able to make something to a reasonable level on Photoshop. What influenced my design is I looked at magazine designs and the conventions that were in that I put into my own work I also wanted for it to appeal to a certain target audience so I designed my front cover and contents page with this in mind.

Some of the things that I changed with my design as I progressed through my design is I changed some of the original template designs slightly as I thought this would make it look better this included things like moving some of the pictures around so I was able to put something else there which I thought would have been able to improve the overall look of it. Some other things that I also changed is I changed the design of the contents page a bit as I thought I could have also improved the overall design by doing this as well. Another thing which I also changed is I made some of the title font bigger this was because I wanted these to stand out among any other words on the page as these would be important for the audience to look at. Also when I put one of the pictures onto the page I also had to move this around and resize it in order for it to be able to actually fit on the page.
